How did it get so late so soon?

How did it get so late so soon?
It's night before it's afternoon.
December is here before it's June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?

A central theme in all my work, and life, is that life is precious. Time running short; we must make the most of this strange, wonderful gift. That takes courage and effort, but we can’t put off living for some future date.

Below, the collection of quotes I assembled over the years as a reminder.

Time is passing. Will you?
- Sign one of my highschool teachers posted at the front of the room

No human, nor any living thing, survives long under the eternal sky.  The most beautiful woman, the most learned men, even Mohammed, who Heard Allah’s own voice, all did whither and die.  All is temporary.  The sky outlives everything.  Even suffering.
     - Bowa Johar, Balti poet.

Enjoy yourself. It's later than you think.
- Chinese Proverb

Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils.
    - Hector Berlioz

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.
-       Annie Dillard, The Writing Life

Most of us spend our lives as if we had another one in the bank.
      - Ben Irwin

If you wait, all that happens is that you get older.
- Larry McMurtry, Some Can Whistle

When your life flashes before your eyes, make sure you've got plenty to watch.
- Author unknown, from a television commercial

There are many To-morrows, my Love, my Love, -
There is only one To-day.
    - Joaquin Miller

Life is always walking up to us and saying, "Come on in, the living's fine," and what do we do?  Back off and take its picture.
      - Russell Baker

To change one's life:  Start immediately.  Do it flamboyantly.  No exceptions.
-       William James

The swift years slip and slide down the steep;
The slow years pass; neither will come again.
       - William Sharp

I've wasted an enormous amount of time, and time is life.  Time is all there is.
            - Gloria Steinem

. . .

Do you live life as if time is finite, or that living a meaningful, interesting, deeply satisfying life can be put off until tomorrow?
