I’m staying tonight with a reader and supporter of Heron Dance in Pfafftown, North Carolina, camped out in his driveway way back in the woods, working in his living room as he sleeps. It’s 4:30 am. I haven’t journaled much in the last few days so thought I’d start by checking in with myself, and writing down any insight or vague impressions might come cascading my way through the aether.

Journaling has been my rock, my source of ideas, of confirmation, of new directions. I ask my journal for answers. I ask my journal for the questions – the questions I’m avoiding that I should be addressing. The answers I get back have in general been important and worthwhile. Not one hundred percent. Not perfect, but pretty good. My best guess – around ninety or ninety five percent in terms of right direction, right risks to take on, right places to focus energy. 

So tonight, when I relaxed into my work, into journaling about my work, and asked my work where it wanted to lead me (as opposed to where I want to lead it), it said write about how important and worthwhile journaling has been in your life.

And then take that to the next level.
