From What Ancient Source Does Tao Energy Flow?
Chapter 4 (The Tao te Ching)

Flowing through all that lives and breathes
The eternal river of life
Without source or mouth.
We draw from it
And yet it remains full.

Gentle as morning mist over stone
It takes our scattered dust and
Creates new soil, new life
Deep beyond measure
gently ushering in light for each dawn
It is elusive, yet everywhere.

Through mountain and cloud
Through root and leaf,
Through blood and breath,
Energy circling back to its source
Without effort
feeding roots, carving valleys,
slipping through every crevice of things becoming.

Use it, and it is not used up.
Join it, and you become
the everlasting tide.
From what ancient source does it come?
Here before the beginning,
it will flow long after the end.

In order to focus on finishing the Tao te Ching journal, we won’t be creating posters of each chapter of the Tao for the next month or so, but if you’d like one just let me know, and we’ll create it. These are printed on high quality, archival art paper so you can cut the image out if you like and have it framed.

The canvas prints come mounted on a wood stretcher underframe, ready to hang.

Other Zen Mountain Journal News:

  • Work is underway on a new Tao te Ching journal. Half the pages will be for reader notes, half will consist of art (in full color), poetry and journal reflections. The journal will be published in 2026. There will be both softcover and hardcover versions. You will be able to pre-order in a couple of weeks, as soon as there is a firm publishing date.

  • Early in January open a studio/gallery in Asheville’s River Arts District at 1 Roberts Street. Stop by if you are in town. It will be closed for one or two days a week, so check the gallery hours before making a trip. They’ll be posted on this website on the Contact tab.

  • January 4, Zen Mountain Journal will host the first of two new Meetups on the use of journaling and meditation in the creative process and in understanding the hidden underlying trends of our lives that determine the quality of life we live. We plan to hold these weekly. They are free. Join us if can. We’ll post the latest in terms of dates and location on the front page of the Heron Dance/Zen Mountain Journal website here.
