The Zen Mountain Art Studio is engaged in a variety of creative projects.
Art connects us to our dreams, to the things that can’t be explained with words, to the things that have touched our core, to our imaginary worlds, and even to our personal chaos. Art has something to do with the part that doesn’t want to be tamed, that can’t be tamed.

A Substack: The Zen Mountain Journal.
Published at least weekly, our Substack explores the use of journaling in understanding the hidden underlying currents of our lives that affect our relationship with our inner world, presented in a Taoist context with ancient Tao and Zen poetry.
The Zen Mountain Journal is reader supported but there is no obligation to support this work. If you would be willing to contribute, please do that here.
The creation of a Tao Te Ching Journal
A Taoist journaling practice for those who seek to connect with inner worlds, with the deep silence and peace within. To be published in April of 2026. Full color art throughout, with unlined blank pages for your journal notes, sketches and paste-ins.
After publication, Zen Mountain plans a series of similar art journals on the gentle arts of a well-lived life from a Taoist/Zen perspective, including a new edition of Wild Waters and The Tao, our book of ten years ago that quickly sold out.
We’ll also reissue some books that sold out ten and fifteen years ago in art journal format:
Thoreau and the Art of Life
The Heron Dance Book of Love & Gratitude
Meditations on Nature, Meditations on Silence
The Man Who Planted Trees
