A Primary Role Of Journaling Is To Tell You What You Don’t Want To Hear

Of the entities I consult, I most often seek advice from the entity I imagine as my creative work.

I enter a meditative state, imagine my work as an entity, and ask it questions.

  • How am I treating you? Do you feel nurtured?

  • How will what I am about to do affect the beauty and quality of the work?

I also consult with an entity I think of as my “investor.” I imagine a wise, successful entity with substantial business experience who wants the best for me and for the work, who has invested time, thought and money in the business side of what I do. I ask that entity:

  • What risks and opportunities confront this work?

·       Is there anything I should be doing differently? Is there anything that I am doing that I shouldn’t be?

A primary role of journaling is to tell you what you don’t want to hear. Spend more of your workday on marketing, for instance. Start a YouTube channel that shares what it is like to not only journal but create Heron Dance. I’m actually planning to do that.
