Here I Sit
When I interviewed poet and renegade priest Rene Fumoleau, he said to me, "I think the goal of life is to become oneself,"
Rene titled his first book of poetry Here I Sit. When he first arrived at Fort Good Hope in Canada's Northwest Territories as a young priest, he noticed that an old man would sit on the river bank for hours most summer days. He appeared to be doing nothing. Eventually Rene asked him why he sat there. "Hejon Wida," the elder replied, or "Here I sit," meaning, in effect, that "This is the right place and I'm the right person to be here. I have now blended all my good days and bad ones. . . I have become the person I was called to be."
. . .
Have you become the person you were called to be? If not, what remains?
. . .
